Why Jonathan must be re-elected —Mimiko, Adesiyan

ONDO State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has said only the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan can guarantee the future of the Nigerian youths.
Also, the Police Affairs Minister, Alhaji AbdulJeleel Adesiyan, said Jonathan deserved another term in office because he had performed better than his predecessors in office.
Mimiko, while speaking at the post-national conference summit convened by Oduduwa Frontliers, at the Kakanfo Inn and Conference Centre, Ibadan, on Friday, said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, would not give the youth the future they deserved.
The forum, which had in attendance students of various tertiary institutions in the state, had at the theme: “Mapping out the future of the Yoruba youths and the national conference perspective.”
Mimiko pointed out that “the youth are the most important variables in Nigeria today. Our country is peculiar, one of the peculiar nations in the world. Our population belongs to young age group which account for between 60 and 65 per cent of the total population.
“So, anybody that is talking about development and talking politics or anything and does not carry the youth along is just talking rubbish, because the youth form the largest proportion of our population.”
The governor noted that the kind of training that the Nigerian youth had was a reflection of the nation’s future, saying that such quality demanded respect from whoever became the nation’s president.
“The level of education that you have, the values that you respect will reflect the nature of our country tomorrow. This is why you are very important. Jonathan established 14 new universities, with nine of them in the North and established over 200 Almajiri schools in the same area.
“You belong to the digital age. With all the sense of responsibility and respect, in terms of educational background, in terms of understanding of the modern economy, in terms of disposition to laissez-faire democratic ethos, I hereby hold that Buhari is analogue,” he said.
Adesiyan, who started his house-to-house campaign for President Jonathan in 10 local government areas in Osun West senatorial district, at the weekend, said no past president had achieved what Jonathan achieved in the last four years in office.
“The president is one of the best Nigeria has ever produced, just as Awolowo predicted that one day, an Ijaw man will rule this country,” he said.
The minister was accompanied at the rally by his wife, Alhaja Otolola Adesiyan; PDP candidate for Osun West senatorial district, Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi; Ayedire Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Alhaji Olaoye Oyelayo, to Oke-Osun, Ile-Igbo, Kuta, Ayedire Local Government and Bode-Osi, in Olaoluwa Local Government.
While addressing the crowd that graced the event, Adesiyan charged the people of the state to come out en masse on Saturday to cast their votes for the re-election of President Jonathan.
He said Buhari was not the right choice for the country, as being claimed by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that “a man cannot be better than his character, so people of the state should vote for God’s choice, which is Goodluck.”
Adesiyan assured the people of the State that PDP would soon reclaim its stolen mandate in the state through the judicial process.
“Jonathan is the real second civilian president after Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua. His government represents peace and tranquility, that is why he must be re-elected,” Adesiyan added.
While commending the Jonathan-led administration, the pensioneers in the state lauded the achievements of the president in the last four years.
