Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi and
the Minister of Sports Tamuno Danagogo will be special guests at the 7th
Splash FM/ICPC Integrity Marathon in Ibadan on Sunday.
About 1000 foreign athletes are expected
to participate in the 42km race organised by the South-West zone one of
the National Sports Commission and co-sponsored by Splash FM and
Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. A
total of 719 athletes took part in the race last year.
The race will take the athletes through
Ibadan, starting from the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium to the High Court end
of Ring Road, Town Planning, Akinyemi, Iyaganku, Aleshionloye, Eleyele,
Sango, University of Ibadan, Ojoo, Iwo Road, Gate, Molete and Challenge
and back to the stadium.
Founder and Chairman of Splash FM Chief
Adebayo Akande, said his continued sponsorship of the tournament was
borne out of the successes it had recorded over the years.
The Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadanland said,
“Integrity Marathon race is coined to campaign for good governance,
accountability and transparency in governance. It is vital to use all
legitimate forms of campaign to stamp out corruption from our society.
So far, the competition has recorded huge success and it is encouraging
to continue with its sponsorship.”
South-West NSC coordinator Steve
Olarinoye said a total N2m would be shared among winners in the men and
women’s categories, adding that only athletes who submitted verifiable
evidence of medical fitness would be allowed to take part in the race.
