The police in Lagos have arrested two men
for allegedly tearing campaign posters and defacing the banners of the
state’s governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Jimi
Agbaje.
The suspects, Fisayo Olomojobi, 29, and
Toheeb Okanlawon, 31, were said to have committed the act on Osborne
Road in the Ikoyi area around 2am.
They were arraigned before an Ebute Meta
Magistrate’s Court on counts bordering on unlawful damage and conduct
likely to cause breach of the peace.
While Okanlawon was arraigned on two counts, his accomplice was arraigned on three counts.
The charges read in part, “That you,
Toheeb Okanlawon of Ewans Street, Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial
District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of
the peace.
“That you, Fisayo Olomojobi, did
unlawfully damage the PDP poster and banners by using paint to deface
the governorship candidate’s banners.”
The police prosecutor, Iyobosa Onaiwu,
said the offences were punishable under sections 337 and 106 of the
Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
They pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The magistrate, F.J. Adefioye admitted them to bail in the sum of N100,000 and adjourned the matter till April 20, 2015.
