South Africans assaults on nonnatives expanding – Nigerian Union

The President of the Nigerian Union in South Africa, Mr Ikechukwu Anyene, said on Friday that xenophobic assaults on remote nationals were  on the increment.

Anyene told the News Agency of Nigeria on telephone from Pretoria, South Africa, that the  technician workshop  of a Nigerian was totally pulverized  at an early stage Friday in Johannesburg.

"In the early hours of  today (Friday), the  technician workshop of a Nigerian,  with 10 autos and all the devices inside,  was obliterated by some South Africans.

"The development to the assault began the previous evening when the South Africans began assembling in the area of the Nigerian.

"The Nigerians living there did not rest and early today, the South Africans struck,'' he said.

Anyene said when the South African police mediated, the aggressors  challenged them and opened flame.

He said however the police pursued them away, the assailants  re-gathered and still completed the demonstration.

"The assaults are spreading and Nigerians don't rest once more. They keep vigil to guarantee that they are not taken unawares.

"There is strain all over the place. Nigerians have shut their shops because of a paranoid fear of being attacked,"he said.

Anyene encouraged the Federal Government to connect with  the South African powers  in dialog with a perspective to stopping the assaults quickly.

"South Africa has loads of organizations in Nigeria and they are doing admirably. Additionally, South Africans live in Nigeria and it is on record that  Nigerians have never done xenophobic assaults  on individual Africans," he said.

He said however the South African government had  been reacting to the assaults, it was insufficient in light of the fact that more outsiders were being assaulted consistently.

Anyene  included, "However no Nigerian has been executed,  it may get to that  in light of the fact that we have had narrow escapes with death.

"The genuine  truth is that Nigerians have lost such a great amount in their organizations to the assaults. The time has aimed to get the Nigerian government to put forth a clear cut expression on these assaults.

"We are not content with what is going on and something critical must be done to stop these assaults.
