The governorship candidate of the Social
Democratic Party in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, said that he did not enter
into any agreement with the All Progressives Congress to work with
Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the forthcoming April 11 governorship
election.
Makinde said this in a reaction to the
speculation that he had accepted the call by APC for him to drop his
governorship aspiration and move to the ruling party in the state.
He reaffirmed his resolve to contest the coming election as SDP candidate.
He said the leaflets in circulation in
some parts of Ibadan that he would work with the incumbent governor was a
ploy to deceive the people of the state, who, he said, were ready to
vote for him.
He said the victory of Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) would not count during the governorship election.
He said, “I am aware of the rumour that I
have accepted to work for Governor Ajimobi and APC but it is a lie. I
don’t have any pact with any party or an individual as I remain the
governorship candidate of SDP. Buhari’s victory in Saturday’s
presidential election will not have any impact on April 11 elections.
“I call on our members and the public
not to be deceived by the Buhari phenomenon. We must vote out a governor
that the majority of the electorate had rejected because of his
antipeople posture, with policies that lacked human face.”
